Oyster Carnage: Shucks Oyster & Wine Bar
This year we celebrated by going to a new oyster and wine bar in town called Shucks. (Coincidentally, this is where C and I went to celebrate our anniversary as well. When you hear about the food, you'll understand why.) Now I know there are a lot of oyster/wine bars in town, but how many of them feature only oysters and grilled cheese? A strange sounding combo, I know, but the concept really works! The menu is short, but sweet, and chock full of fresh, salty seafood goodness with a side of cheesy heaven.
We started with 1/2 a dozen raw Gulf Coast oysters (served with a trio of sauces, but I'm a purist and usually stick with cocktail sauce and horseradish) along with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Most of the time I head straight for the red wine list, but a dry glass of Sauvignon Blanc really complements seafood well, especially as we slowly creep into the warmer months. If you're looking to splurge, ask the waiter if they have any bottles of Sancerre as that's another one of my favorite dry whites.
We then split their two most decadent sounding sandwich options: the European Ham & Cheese and the Jalapeno Cheese Popper. Are you ready for this...?
I know my low quality pictures don't do the food justice, but if you're looking for a fun night out full of cheesy decadence and fresh seafood I highly recommend Shucks! It's located in Town Brookhaven and you can find the menu here.
I hope you all have a fun (and tasty) weekend!
